The first BuildBlock International Convention held January 9-12 was a huge success, judging by the feedback we’ve received from the attending distributors, dealers, and exhibitors. The beautiful Renaissance Marriott in downtown Oklahoma City provided luxurious accommodations for attendees while the fun and festive Bricktown district presented them with a variety of after hours activities. Attendees crossed the skywalk from the Renassiance to the CoxConvention Center where the convention itself was held in style.
One of the highlights of the Convention was our Awards Dinner. Dave and Stacey Russell (Wall Tech Products, Michigan) were presented with a plaque and $1000 cash award as the Top Distributor for 2007. Other award recipients included: Top Distributor Per Capita, John Nichols, Homeworks (CO); #2 Distributor, Randy Moore, ICF Supply (WI); #3 Distributor, Kevin Germann, Garrett Building Materials (OK); Top Dealer, Jeff Pallister, Advanced Building Components (MT); #2 Dealer, Matt Zetlmeisl, ICF Constructors (TX); #3 Dealer, Zarach Epperson, Cabinet Cedar Products (MT); and Special Project of the Year, Kevin Birchmore for The McKernon Group (VT).
The General Sessions were packed with education and information on a variety of important topics. We were honored with the presence of several keynote speakers, including: Stan Rashkin, National Director of the Energy Star for Homes program; Kelly Parker, P.E., LEED AP, President of GWS; Jim Neihof, Residential Director of the Portland Cement Association; and Chuck Vance, Fortified Program Manager for IBHS. BuildBlock CEO Mike Garrett presented new product announcements and moderated the Distributor Panel, a powerful Q&A session.
Vendor booths were located right outside of the meeting rooms, giving attendees the opportunity for a hands-on demonstration of ICF related accessories and tools. Attendees and vendor/exhibitors alike have commented on what a valuable networking experience it was.
Break-out Sessions gave attendees the chance to learn more about specific topics in a more intimate setting. Break-out Sessions included "The Competition's Disadvantages" by Dave Russell (Wall Tech Products, Master Distributor); "Selling Commercial Construction Projects" by Randy Wilkerson (Sustainable Building Components, Master Distributor); "Selling & Building with the Energy Star Program" by Sam Rashkin; "L.E.E.D." by Kelly Parker; and a hands-on demonstration by FossilCrete.
