Rising damp is prevented by isolating the
concrete from any water source. The following diagram provides
details:
THE CONCRETE FOOTING
With impermeable sub soils (such as clay or
rock), a 3 - 4" granular drainage layer must be placed under the
footing to prevent wicking and provide a water pathway to the
adjacent drain tile.
Permeable sub soils such as gravel do not
require a drainage layer under the footing.
Install the footing membrane as per the
manufacturer's instructions. All joints should be lapped a
minimum of 8".
The bottom edge of the wall membrane must be
lapped over the footing membrane to ensure water is directed
away from the footing and into the drainage layer below. The
inside footing member should be cutaway to provide an exit for
any water that may enter.
